Adults are not the only one affected with stress. The condition is also quite clear in children and teenagers. This is a crucial development period for it is where a person molds his or her outlook in life as well as coping mechanisms. Constant stress can alter this development phase, therefore it should be minimized as much as possible. One common cause of stress during this stage is weight gain and obesity. For a growing teenager or child, finding ways on how to lose weight is a daunting task, particularly when peer pressure is at hand and other external forces. But you can ease the situation.
Weight issues and stress
Constant teasing and belittling may affect child’s maturity. As a parent one must see through the child’s needs. Through careful observation, you may notice changes of behavior or signs of depression in them. Sometimes the child may develop negative means of coping. For example, they eat more and control their eating less. These simple signs of frustrations and stress seems simple for but for these kids, this could be a big matter already. With all the pressure in school, personal growth and social acceptance, having added stress is not welcome.
Controlling weight
As a parent, it is best to promote fitness through the family first. It’s the best place where they get a good amount of attention and help. Starting with a good diet, practice eating together during dinner where most members of the family are available.
Promote a healthy diet. Encourage the child to order a well-round diet that consists of fruits, vegetables, whole grain, lean meat, seafood and many more. You can also prepare low-calorie meals for them – pack lunch is very much suitable. It is also a good idea to limit pocket-money to avoid kids from buying excessive junk foods.

To manage weight, the teenager has to accept that the issue is there. A fine approach is to have an open conversation and allow them to say, “I want to lose weight fast” without discouragement and negative comments. Do not play the “I told you so” blame game, instead support them 100%. This will help them create self-motivation and build coping skills. Suggest fitness activities, for this age, the teenager can join sports clubs to promote physical activities.
Enjoy fitness activities with family
Promoting fitness activities through the family is surely a plus. A family that enjoys going to camps – where they can enjoy hiking activities, boat riding, bike riding and others – generally has good health. Camping is just one example. The family may get into sports or day outs at parks, opening more opportunities for weight loss. More importantly, these activities don’t only promote fitness – it also promotes bonding in the family.
Slowly reduce stress and anxiety level of these children through weight control. Remember that weight loss is achievable and stress is manageable. There is no question about that.
